“Many children and adults in our area goto bed hungry every night; if we can provide
them one nutritious meal a day, it will go a long way toward giving them hope that someone cares. Life takes unexpected turns…a job loss, health issues, divorce….any one of these life changing events could happen to any of us. We are called to help each other in hard
times and for many, these are hard times. The need is REAL and the time for action is NOW.”
- Sandy Tilley – Founder of Angels and Sparrows
Sandy left a good paying job with excellent benefits to pursue her vision of opening a soup kitchen in Huntersville. Sandy established Angels and Sparrows Soup Kitchen, Inc., a nonprofit, to address the problem of hunger that many of our neighbors face in their daily lives.
Her plan is to serve the Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson and north Mecklenburg County unincorporated areas. New Friendship Presbyterian Church (corner of Hwy 115 and Ramah Church Road) has agreed to partner with Sandy by allowing the facility to be built on their property.
Hearts and Hammers will oversee the construction of the project from beginning to end and provide skilled contractors to work with volunteer labor during the actual construction.
How can you get involved? Mark your calendars for the week of July 4th to help with the construction of the soup kitchen. Work will begin on Saturday, June 28th and wrap up on Saturday, July 5th. No skills necessary. Everyone can make a difference.
