IHBC Sends Relief Team to Mississippi

On Monday, September 12, an 11 member team from Independence Hill traveled to Pascagoula , Mississippi to provide assistance to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.  The group consisted of the following:  Debbie Fulghum, Kate Fuquay, Nancy Ferrell, Daphne McCoy , Gerry Benfield, Brandon Johnson, Scott Smith, Tim McCoy, Bert Giles (Tim's youth pastor friend from High Point), Tommy Greene (Bert's friend,) and Brian Prince (youth pastor friend from Tennessee).

The group partnered with the Jackson County Baptist Association in Pascagoula to perform “Mud-Outs” for four residents in the city.  The group would remove all items from the home and strip the sheetrock out of the house from 4 feet above the floor to the floor.  This process allows structures to dry and be evaluated for reconstruction.  City-wide destruction was seen at every turn.  90% of the homes within a mile from the Gulf Shore experienced 20” – 50” of flooding during the storm surge.  All homes on the popular Beach Blvd. were complete losses.

IHBC plans to send more relief teams in the near future.  A team is being assembled to assess needs and coordinate teams to return in October.  If you are interested, please email Pastor Tim at tim@independencehill.org for more information.  As dates are set and teams are assembled, we will be posting this information on the website and communicating through our newsletter and Sunday worship folders.
