Independence Hill Baptist Church (IHBC) was founded on October 21, 1872. Our name was chosen in honor of the nearby historical site where the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence was conceived and preserved, a full year before ratification of the national Declaration of Independence. You will, however, hear us commonly refer to this place as "The Hill."
IHBC supports various mission efforts through voluntary affiliations with Metrolina Baptist Ministries and North Carolina State Baptist Convention. We also participate in the Lottie Moon and Annie Armstrong offerings.
At "The Hill" we are all about leading people to love Jesus and experience a new life! This means we have a personal relationship with Jesus and follow Him. We do that by connecting people in:
Those are just the basics! Around The Hill we've adopted some core values that you will hear over and over again. These are beliefs that are at the heart of all we do.
We believe the Bible and choose to live by its teachings. The only reason our church has existed from the 19th century to the 21st century is because we live out the principles in God's inspired writings from the 1st century and before.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.
House of Prayer
Prayer happens here. We are a house of prayer before we are a place of programs. No one should ever leave the Hill without being prayed for and/or prayed with! Programs should be the result of prayer, not the other way around.
Isaiah 56:7 For My house will be called a house of prayer for all the peoples.
You Can Belong
You can belong before you become. This simply means we welcome anyone who wants to learn about Jesus. Imperfect people live here. This thing called the church is a pretty big deal! We were created to live in community and can't survive as the Lone Ranger (even that guy had Tonto). No Lone Rangers!
Matthew 11:28 Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.
Love Like Jesus
Jesus loved in a way the world that shocked the world. We make it our mission to do the same everywhere we go. Specifically at the Hill, we purpose to make a guest's first 5 minutes and the last 5 minutes ridiculous with amount of love that they receive from our church.
John 15:12 This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you.
Faith isn't a one-time event. Faith isn't a once a week event. It's a lifetime of following Jesus at church and away from church. This is where the rubber meets the road. Kind of hard to do this without reading the Bible, praying, belonging and loving like Jesus on your own DAILY!
Luke 9:23 If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.
