Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light.” (Romans 13:11-12)

If you knew that Jesus Christ was returning tomorrow, what difference would it make for you today?

The present time of darkness includes a pandemic, injustice, disappointment, grief and loss.

The world’s problems loom large in our view.

But these will all come to an end.

The day is drawing near when Christ will come a second time. Now is the time to wake up.

The morning is coming — not just Christmas morning, but the morning when you will see Jesus face-to-face. The day Jesus comes back will be a day all will see Him.

Believers in Him will celebrate as they hear Him read their name from the Book of Life. We will rejoice! But there will be others whose names will not be read.

Right now, the Lord gives us the privilege and responsibility to do everything in our power to see that those names are as few as possible — to tell the world of His great love, of why He came on Christmas Day.

Paul writes that we should cast off the works of darkness — actions that are performed in the dark, like violence and sin. His appeal is to put on the armor of light, showing love to others and holding fast the truth that Jesus is coming again. Are you ready?

Pray and Reflect

Reflect on Christ’s second coming and the fact that you can look to a future that will be free of disease, violence, injustice and heartache. How can you experience His presence and His purpose for you to reflect His love to all around you until that day comes?
